Mike, there is a reason that they make motorcycle specific riding gear, weather conditions, riding comfort, safety features, etc. My suggestion is if you want to ride and be uncomfortable and waste your money, buy the inexpensive gear. I believe that you should not scrimp on riding gear at any time. I have a riding suit for the winter months and it is so comfortable that you can wear shorts and a t-shirt underneath and actually be too warm sometimes. Gloves, buy the best that you can, with fingers. And of course you will want a good quality full face helmet. My suit, one-piece, cost me $150.00 at the local shop and I paid $50.00 for the gloves. While this is not the most expensive that you can buy it certainly is more than adequate. As for the helmet, taste varies, I have a nice Bell that retails for $400.00. This of course is just my suggestion, whatever you choose ride free and responsible.
